IAs part of the ongoing collaboration between HafenCity University (HCU), Kota Kita, and Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), the Indonesian PSSI project team introduced its architectural inventory methodology to students from the Department of Architecture at UNS. The session was held within the Architectural Research Methodology course and the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program under the supervision of Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah Nurul Handayani (Rully).
The knowledge-sharing session provided students with an overview of the PSSI research and a hands-on introduction to the project's architectural inventory approach. Participants learned how field data are collected through observations and interviews, how housing adaptations are systematically documented, and how the information is processed and analysed to better understand incremental housing development and climate-responsive practices.
Building on the session, the students will carry out their own fieldwork in the neighbourhoods of Mojo and Semanggi, focusing on the government's housing improvement programme. Their research offers an exciting opportunity to compare government-led upgrading initiatives with the PSSI project's findings on organically developed informal settlements.
By bringing together these two perspectives, the collaboration aims to deepen our understanding of different pathways of neighbourhood transformation and to generate valuable insights into how housing improvements evolve under community-driven and government-led approaches alike.
